The salt water flush is what I generally get asked about the most when it comes to detoxing, so below I have outlined the most common answers to questions that I get asked. Hopefully this will go some way to explaining what the salt water flush is and how it can really make your detox successful.
1. The flush consists of 32 fl Oz's of spring or pure water (not tap water or water that has been treated with chemicals) and 2 TEASPOONS of fine grain sea salt. Many people make the mistake of using too much salt and often read the ingredients as 2 tablespoons. It's best made with room temperature or slightly warmed water as this enables the salt to dissolve more quickly and it also makes it much easier to drink.
2. The salt water flush is the same density as blood so this is why the body doesn't absorb it. It flushes through your system within 30 Min's to 2 hrs and takes with it the toxins that the lemon detox drink has cleaned off your insides throughout the previous day.
3. To make it easier to drink, try imagining that you're drinking warm chicken soup. Many folks find that this can really help to get the flush down. You might also like to try drinking it through a straw as this helps the flush to bypass your taste buds.
If you take some deep breaths and focus on an object before drinking it, you'll find that it's easier to drink. I like to gaze out of my kitchen window, focus on a bright flower and just concentrate on the wonderful benefits of the flush once it's gone through. Try not to breathe through your nose whilst you drink or when you stop to take a breath. Keep breathing through your mouth in between gulps as this also helps to minimize the taste.
4. A laxative tea can be substituted for the salt water flush, only if the person simply cannot drink it. You would have your regular tea before retiring and then replace the salt water flush in the morning with another laxative tea.
5. Take your salt cleansing to another level and cleanse the toxins from the outside of your body with a salt water bath. Natural dead sea salt bath crystals are widely available and the benefits during and after a cleanse are phenomenal.
The benefits of salt as a natural cleanser are widely documented and often underestimated. If you can tolerate the salt water flush then you will experience a great detox.
